Sumps

In a working extraction shed, a honey sump is the catch point between the extractor and everything downstream. Honey runs out of the extractor gate into the sump, passes through its strainers to leave wax fragments and bee parts behind, and collects in the base ready to be pumped away. Placed low beside the extractor, a sump lets honey flow in by gravity while the next load spins, so the extractor never has to wait for a bucket to be swapped.

Our Königin honey sump tank holds 160 litres and is built from 1.5mm 1.4301 stainless steel, with two honey inlets at the ends and a central outlet riser for connecting a pump, which is sold separately. Its hot water jacket is heated by a 1.1kW element on 230V power. That heat matters on a cool autumn or winter extraction day: warm honey passes through the strainers more easily and draws evenly through the pump, where cold, thick honey can slow the whole line. The internal tank measures 100 x 60 x 27cm, so check the footprint against the space beneath your extractor outlet.

To finish the line, pair the sump with one of our Königin honey pumps and send the strained honey on to stainless honey settling tanks before packing.
