A beehive cover is the roof that keeps rain and harsh sun out of the top box. Our migratory-style covers pair a Galvabond metal sheet with a timber frame, rims and four vents the bees can block or open as needed. Buy one as a kit to assemble and finish with our timber treatments for woodware, or choose the assembled Ready-To-Go version, hot wax dipped and painted with two coats of acrylic. Both come in 8F and 10F widths to suit your beehive boxes and supers.
The key choice is what the lid is for. A standard beehive cover stays on a living hive all year. A transport cover is a heavy-duty galvanised steel tray that closes a stack of supers on the way to the extraction shed, cutting honey spillage and scavenging bees. Beneath the lid, a crown board takes the place of a hive mat as an inner cover, and the 10F round-hole model suits Rapid top feeders, with a 12cm perforated galvanised plate available for its centre hole. For extra hive insulation, 12mm AA marine ply cover linings are made in both widths.
