A full-length bee suit covers you from ankle to hood in one piece, which makes it the garment most new beekeepers buy first and the one to pull on when a colony turns cranky. We keep the fabric choice simple: heavy 100% cotton at 315gsm, or vented triple layer mesh. You won't find polycotton among our bee suits, because it gets unbearably hot under an Australian summer sun.
Deciding between the two comes down to heat and laundry. The cotton beekeeping suit is the traditional, heavier option and can go through the washing machine. The vented 3 layer bee suit is made for hot days: three intersecting layers of raised fabric sit away from your skin, letting air in and sweat evaporate, though it has to be washed by hand. Both come in a wide run of adult sizes from XS, with padded knees, two hive tool pockets, YKK zips and ankle cuffs secured by a zip and Velcro. The veil is your pick and detaches: a Euro style whose face mesh zips open and folds down, or a round hat.
No bee suit makes you sting-proof, so pair it with beekeeping gloves. If a hood tears after a few seasons, replacement bee veils fit either suit, and kids' bee suits cover younger helpers. For sizing questions, ask the Beewise staff in Sydney or Perth.
