Medium supers are the honey boxes many beekeepers move to once lifting full-depth supers starts to take a toll, and in the Apimaye 10-frame series the medium size is the Manley super. It has the same insulated polypropylene walls as the rest of the 10F range, so the honey stored above the brood sits in a box that holds its warmth, and it is fitted with stainless lock and latch handles for a firm grip when the box is heavy.
Buy the Manley super on its own, or as a bundle with your choice of Manley frames: assembled timber frames that come waxed and wired in stainless, black Beemax plastic with the foundation built in, or the Handy Frame, which splits open to take a wax sheet and suits cut comb honey. The bundle also includes a multifunctional round entrance.
The decision to make before ordering is how many frame sizes you want to carry. Sitting medium supers on a full-depth brood box means stocking two sizes, while pairing them with an Apimaye Manley brood box keeps every frame in the hive the same, so combs can shift between boxes during splits or at harvest. Spare Manley frames are sold separately, and an Apimaye queen excluder keeps the queen laying below the honey.
Manley supers are 170mm tall, that is 72mm shorter than the Full Depth supers, and therefore use the shorter Manley frame. Beekeepers choose Manley supers for honey production mainly because when filled with honey, they weigh approximately 10kg less than a honey filled Full Depth super.
