A bee escape board is the gentle way to take honey off the hive. Slide it under a full, capped super and its one-way escapes let the bees drop down to the brood nest but stop them getting back up. Leave it for 24 to 48 hours and you come back to a super mostly clear of bees, ready to lift off. Our bee clearer boards are sized for 8F and 10F Langstroth supers, plus a 10F 4-corner board made for Apimaye hives.
Layouts differ: 4-corner boards have an escape in each corner, 8-port boards spread eight exits across the board, and the Great Escape boards use cone escapes and are made in New Zealand from BPA-free polypropylene that handles a hot-water wash. Whichever bee escape board you choose, match its width to your supers. An escape board for bees is often mistaken for a queen excluder, but queen excluders stay on through the season to keep the queen out of the honey, while a clearer board goes on only in the day or two before harvest.
