WSP frames are the three-quarter depth frames made for WSP boxes, which many Australian beekeepers run as honey supers and some use for the brood nest. A WSP box is shallower than a full-depth one and lighter to carry once it is packed with honey, but only WSP bee frames hang correctly inside it, so check the depth of your supers before ordering.
All four options are timber with self-spacing end bars; the choice is how ready you want them. The flat-pack kit has a 13mm grooved bottom bar that takes a sheet of wax or plastic foundation. The assembled versions have asymmetric end bars, brass eyelets, 12 staples and four strands of 304 stainless wire, supplied bare or already waxed for the hive. The fourth comes assembled with plastic foundation fitted, in fine-grained, slow-grown pine. If you spin heavy frames fast or shift hives in hot weather, four-wire WSP frames give the comb extra support, and that wire costs little next to a blown-out comb.
Building from the kit? Pair it with WSP sheets of beeswax foundation and the WSP foundation embedding board. Our WSP rebate boxes are made in both 8F and 10F widths, and it pays to have spare WSP frames ready before spring build-up. Unsure of your super depth? Our Perth and Sydney staff are happy to help.
Beewise 4-wire WSP frames provide superior comb support for heavy honey loads, high-speed extraction, transport and hot Australian conditions.
For a commercial beekeeper, the extra wire is a relatively small additional cost compared with the potential cost of broken comb, damaged foundation, lost honey and extraction problems.
The WSP frames are self-spacing frames wide enough to provide the correct bee space between combs when the frames are pushed together.
