Brood Full Depth

The brood box is the lowest box of an Apimaye 10-frame beehive, home to the queen and her developing brood, so this is where the insulated polypropylene walls do their most useful work, helping the colony hold a steady brood temperature with less effort. This full depth Apimaye brood box forms the base of the hive, supplied with its vented bottom board, pollen trap, top feeding, frame spacers, a round entrance with closure and INOX stainless handles with locking latches.

Frames are the one choice left to make. The box holds ten full-depth Langstroth frames, which are extra, so if you already run timber hives you can buy the brood on its own and move standard full-depth frames straight across. Black Beemax plastic frames come with foundation built in and show white eggs and larvae clearly, while the Apimaye Handy Frame opens up to take your own wax sheet. For timber, pick assembled AA frames with six stainless wires, waxed, or wood frames fitted with plastic foundation.

As the colony builds up in spring, stack a full-depth Apimaye super or a lighter Apimaye Manley super above the brood box, and keep spare full depth brood frames handy for splits and comb replacement.
