Our bee hive kits put a working Langstroth hive together in one order, built around a full-depth brood box and super in 8-frame or 10-frame width. The complete 8F kits arrive flat-packed with 16 frames and foundation, a queen excluder, base, assembled vented cover, nails and DIY instructions. The box-and-base kits pair two finger-jointed New Zealand pine boxes with a base and vented cover, so you can fit frames of your own choosing.
The main decision is how much work you want to do before the bees arrive. Flat-pack beehive kits are raw, chemical-free pine, so give the outside two coats of Lanogard or outdoor acrylic from our timber treatments for woodware first. Our Ready-To-Go boxes skip that step: each is hot wax dipped, painted and sold with your choice of frames, in full depth, WSP or Ideal. For foundation, plastic sheets come ready to coat with beeswax, while the premium 8F kit uses pure WA beeswax with stainless frame wire.
An 8-frame box is lighter to lift when full of honey; 10-frame gives the colony more room on each level. Setting up for spring? Turn one of our bee hive kits into a beekeeping starter kit with a full bee suit and spare timber bee frames. Prefer a horizontal hive? The Kenyan Top Bar kit holds 20 bars.
