A beehive brush moves bees off a frame, a box rim or your veil without hurting them, so it earns a place in the inspection kit next to the hive tool and smoker. It works hard at harvest as well: sweep the last bees from capped honey frames before they head to the honey extractor, or coax a swarm into a waiting box.

The premium brushes have multiple rows of bristle for a wider, fuller sweep and come in natural or nylon, so between those two it mostly comes down to feel. Technique matters more than the model. Use light, quick flicks across the comb rather than pressing down, especially over open brood and uncapped honey, where a heavy stroke can damage cells. Wash honey and propolis out of the bristles now and then, because a sticky beehive brush drags bees instead of lifting them away.
