Timber that spends years out in the apiary has to cope with rain, sun and damp ground, and wax dipped bee boxes are made for exactly that. Every box on this page is New Zealand pine, dipped in hot wax and then painted, giving two layers of protection: the wax soaks into the timber to help keep moisture out and lower the risk of rot, while the painted exterior guards against weather and UV.
The range covers full depth in 8-frame and 10-frame, WSP in 8-frame, and Ideal in both widths. Each has four hand grips, most are 22mm thick and held together with screws rather than nails or staples, and the 8F WSP and Ideal boxes are rebate style. When choosing between our wax dipped bee boxes, start with width: an 8F or 10F box must match the base, lid and boxes already on your hive. Then pick a depth. Full depth suits the brood nest, while the shallower WSP and Ideal boxes make lighter honey supers to lift at harvest.
