The bee hive bottom board is the floor your colony stands on, and the choice comes down to ventilation and pest control. We stock 8-frame and 10-frame bottom boards in two styles: solid bases in marine ply or 9.5mm Weathertex, and screened bottom boards with a stainless steel mesh floor over a removable pest tray.
Solid boards make a simple, sturdy bee hive base. The marine ply versions come assembled with cleats and risers, untreated or hot wax dipped, while Weathertex bases have a hard white upper finish and come as a kit or assembled. A screened bottom board with tray lets varroa mites, small hive beetle and wax moth debris drop through the mesh, so a sticky board shows natural mite fall early. Check tray position first: rear trays are standard, but if your hives sit on pallets or back onto a wall, choose the front-tray base. Beetle Baffle models make it harder for beetles to climb into the brood, and the Apimaye Type-G base adds a pest drawer and pollen trap for 10-frame timber hives.

The Best Bottom Board for your 10-Frame Wood Hive, the Apimaye Type-G bottom boards are designed specifically for the Australian market to be compatible with 10-Frame wooden hives be they Full Depth, WSP, Manley or Ideal.
Just like bottom boards for the famous Apimaye Hive, these Type-G bottom boards are multifunction being equipped with a Pest Drawer so Varroa, SHB and Wax Moth/Grubs that fall through the base on to the Pest Drawer are stuck in the drawer and cannot return to the hive when the Pest Tray is used with a sticky mat or is coated with a light film of canola oil or vaseline (petroleum jelly).
All our bottom boards can be used safely in all climate conditions. The unique grill design enables ventilation in extremely hot weather, while helping remove moisture from the bee hive at the very cold temperatures. Balancing the moisture inside the hive results in maturing the honey sooner, thus increasing the hive productivity.
As the bottom boards are equipped with a bottom a drawer, you can have a better understanding of your hive through checking the drawer.
The pollen traps on the bottom boards are specially designed to prevent bee injuries while collecting the pollen. A built in pollen tray enables collecting the pollen hygienically.
The bee hive entrance holes can be opened or closed very easily. The entrance can also be width-adjusted based on the climate.
The air channels built into the board prevents bee losses during transportation.
